The World Heritage Sites of Bangladesh
Though Bangladesh is
a small country it has many heritage sites. The historical Shat Gambuj
Mosque of Bagerhat, the Buddist Vihara of Paharpur, the longest
sea-beach of the Bay of Bengal of Chittagong and the Sundarbans are the most important of them. The Shat Gambuj Mosque is situated in the district of Bagerhat. It is the 15th century
Islamic edifice founded by Saint Khan Jahan Ali. The ruins of the
Buddist Vihara is situated at Paharpur in the district of Rajshahi. It
was founded in the 7th century. It is the largest Buddist
monastery in the Indian subcontinent. It bears an archeological
importance for its historical and cultural value. Again Sundarbans is
the most important world heritage site in Bangladesh which
is situated to the South of the country. The Sundarban is famous for
the Royal Bengal Tigers, deer and sundari trees. It is the largest
mangrove forest in the world. The sea-beach of the Bay of Bengal in Chittagong is
also a world heritage site because it is the longest sea coast in the
world. We are lucky enough to have as many as four world heritage sites
in such a small country like ours. World heritage sites are very
important internationally. Tourist from abroad come to visit every year.
These world heritage sites are not only assets to our nation but also
to the whole world. The government should take proper care of the world
heritage sites in Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh should protect the world heritage sites from being decline or destruction.
