Read the text and answer the questions following it (1-3).
A good citizen is one who has the good of his country at heart. He tries to work for the greatness and glory of his country. He is faithful to his country and is always prepared to sacrifice his all to save the honour of the land. A good citizen is not a mere law abiding citizen. He respects the traditions of his country not blindly but rationally.
A good citizens has a scientific temper. He tries to remove the social evils which are the bane of the society. He has deep respect for the past. A good citizen must live in peace with his fellow citizen and help the state against all criminals and law breakers. He is not blindly conservative and he is progressive in his outlook.
A good citizen keeps close to the high ideals and works for the betterment of his country. He works for the unity of the country and does not do anything which might harm the solidarity of the country. He knows that if his countrymen are not united, the nation shall face danger from hostile countries. A good citizen is kind and sympathetic towards everyone. He respects the rights and privileges of others. He knows well that whatever he does will have an impact on others and therefore he is cautious. He does not do anything which might have bad effect on others. He is honest and diligent and works for the good of his fellow citizens.

Answer to the question-2
a) The given passage contains an elaborate discussion about a good citizen. From reading of this passage I can say - ‘A good citizen is one who tries his best for the betterment of one's land.’
b) A good citizen abides by the laws of the country, respects the traditions, tries to remove the social evils, lives in peace with his fellow citizens, helps the state against all criminals and law breakers, keeps close to the high ideals, works for the unity of the country and does not do anything which might harm the solidarity of the country and respects the rights and privileges of others. This is what a good citizen does for the betterment of his country.
c) He should be kind and sympathetic towards everyone and should respect the rights and privileges of others. He does not do anything which might affect others as he has knowledge that his deeds have impact on others. Thus he remains cautious.
d) 'Scientific temper' means an organized knowledge about the state of mind. It allows a good citizen to distinguish between right and wrong giving him a progressive outlook.
e) If the countrymen are divided, the nation shall face danger from other countries hostile to us. The solidarity of a country is of great importance.
